Equipment Focus: Gyrotoner

The Gyrotoner facilitates hip, and shoulder articulation in a myriad of different planes. It is an especially useful piece of Gyrotonic equipment for mobilizing the thoracic spine, and for coordinating hip, and shoulder movements with the spine. Juliu Horvath developed the movements that one can perform on the Gyrotoner so that various muscle groups, tendons and ligaments in the spine, arms, hips, legs and ankles, among other body parts, could be strengthened and stretched simultaneously while the user consciously engages breathing patterns when executing the movements. The energy channels running throughout the body are thus stimulated, and the overall effect on the mind and body can be profound.

This specialized unique piece of equipment which utilizes aspects of the Gyrotonic Method can help with:

  • general hip pain, neck pain, shoulder pain, tendonitis

  • preventing injuries for shoulder, hips and spine

  • pre/post surgical hip strengthening, hip replacement rehabilitation, strengthening the hip

  • pre/post surgical shoulder strengthening, separated shoulder, increasing range of motion for the shoulder, strengthening weak shoulders

  • bulging discs (as it strengthens and lengthens the muscles in the spine around problem areas)

  • disorders of the immune system, as it helps to stimulate the endocrine system, vagus nerve, and lymphatic system
